LGBTQ Ministries

Mays Chapel is a member of the Reconciling Ministries Network, as of November 2023. We cherish all God’s children and welcome everyone to Christ’s table of grace as we ourselves have been welcomed. We celebrate our diversity and recognize the sacred worth and dignity of all persons without regard to gender, race, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical or mental capacity, education or economic or marital status. We welcome all into full participation in the life of the church and will work for the full inclusion of all persons into the life and ministry of the United Methodist Church.

As we journey to reconciliation, we are intent on deepening our congregational welcome to anyone for whom church has not felt like a safe place. We welcome all who have known the pain of exclusion and discrimination within the church. We also recognize that there remain differences of opinion among us. We do not seek to erase our differences. Instead, we journey together in faith toward greater understanding, mutual respect, and love.

We accept God’s love and unconditionally give it away.

Reconciling Statement:
The Mays Chapel United Methodist Church celebrates God’s gift of diversity and values the wholeness made possible in community equally shared and shepherded by all. We welcome and affirm people of every gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, who are also of every age, race, ethnicity, physical and mental ability, level of education, and family structure, and of every economic, immigration, marital, and social status, and so much more. We acknowledge that we live in a world of profound social, economic, and political inequities. As followers of Jesus, we commit ourselves to the pursuit of justice and pledge to stand in solidarity with all who are marginalized and oppressed.
